July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month
As a pet owner, one of the fears that we are faced with sometimes - losing our furry friend. July seems to be a month where pets are lost due to the 4th of July fireworks and celebrations. Getting lost is not only traumatizing for the pet owner, but for the animal as well.
Here are a few tips to keep your loved ones where they belong:
Keep your dog on a leash
Have a tall backyard fence - make it difficult for them to jump over. Make sure there are no holes in the backyard where they can easily crawl out of
When leaving the house, make sure you lock the backdoor and windows
When traveling with your pet, carry their favorite toys, bed and leash with you - make it comfortable for them
When taking your pet out to play, make sure it is in a confined area
If you happen to go shopping with your pet - have them on a leash and DO NOT leave them unattended, PLUS - DO NOT leave them in the car while you do your shopping!
